Handmade with love by
One of Chin-yun’s most vivid childhood memories is seeing her mom and grandma weave triangle rush into mats and hats in their living room. The two then taught her how to weave at the young age of 6. Her days were spent at school during the daytime and in the living room in the evening, weaving with the women in her family. Rush weaving helped Chin-yun support her family financially. She is currently in her 60’s, a doting grandma, and still very much involved in the industry as a weaver and a small business owner.
Rush is harvested thrice a year - once between April and May, August and September, and finally in November. They are laid out in the sun to dry; this process gives them a golden brown tone and strengthens the fiber. They are then tied into sheaves before storing in a cool, dry place.

Once cured, the root ends are chopped off. The next step involves a labor-intensive process in which a needle is used to split the leaves into thin strips.

Finally, they are pound and rubbed against a hard surface until they become soft and pliable.

After several months of preparation, the rush fiber is finally ready for weaving! Weaving alone can take between 24 hours to a month!
Before using your rush product for the first time, we recommend wiping the surface with a damp cloth wrung almost dry.

Clean up spills immediately with a damp cloth. Do not soak or bleach. Place the product outside in the sun or a well-ventilated area and allow it to dry thoroughly.

To prevent mold growth, put the product in a sealed bag when not in use. Store in a cool, dry place.

Gently scrub the affected area using a soft-bristled brush. Once clean, pat the area with a damp cloth. Place the product outside in the sun or a well-ventilated area and allow it to dry thoroughly.

Rush products change color over time. This process is normal and part of its charm.
